Money Brain research: what we checked, and when

The lender rules, scheme details and market figures on this site come from a lender's own policy, a government page or a regulator, and each carries the date we checked it. Darren's own worked examples and the calculators' results aren't listed here. This page lists what we've checked, by subject, and links to the pages where it's used.

How we check a figure

  • The original source only.

A lender's own policy, a government page, a regulator or the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Never another broker's summary, and never a paid property data seller.

  • A date on every figure.

Each page says when its figures were checked. Lender policies and government schemes change without notice, so a figure without a date isn't worth much.

  • What we couldn't check, we say.

If a source couldn't be read, or a lender's policy doesn't answer a question, the page says so rather than guessing.

  • The lender's words, not ours.

We don't make a lender's policy sound firmer than the lender does.

Found something out of date?

Lenders and governments change their rules often. If a figure on this site has changed since the date shown, tell us. We'll check the source again, correct the page and change its date.
